To the stairs I have to climb

It binds the muddy river
To the smell of rotting leaves
To the splintered light of memories
To the branches of the trees

It binds the fiery moment
To the ashes of the past
To the wedding vows in Vegas
To the tombstone in the grass

It binds the flying bullet
Of your casual remark
To my earlobe,
and my brain
Onward stopping at my heart

It binds the fading conciousness
Of those on their death bed
With everything they've experienced
and felt,

It binds the little toes that peep
from every newborns bed
To the rush of joy in motion
as she learns to use her legs

It binds the Holy Spirit
to the soul in her distress
to the time of restoration
when that is,
no one can guess

It binds the shiny blowfly
in his restless search for food

and one day there for good
